Growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, poverty and crime were a way of life. I watched in high school as my childhood friends were carted off either to jail or the morgue. The cops harassed all of us, there were no honest jobs to be found, and most of us were born into the world without hope. I made a vow that if I were fortunate enough to get out, I would do something meaningful with my life – I would not waste the opportunity to help other people.
I spent a few years doing various jobs. I toured the country singing Johnny Cash covers. When I couldn’t book shows, I did anything I could to make money. I bartended, I did construction jobs, even sold vacuum cleaners door-to-door in Texas, where they shoot first and say “howdy!” after.
For years I went bumming around, chasing my rainbows and meeting interesting people. Then, one fateful Christmas Eve, my oldest childhood friend was wrongly accused have a severe crime and, because the public defender and district attorney both took advantage of him, my friend spent 8 years in prison. This made me realize that wasn’t just about me anymore, and I needed to step up and do something to help my fellow man. I went back to college and then graduated the top of my law school class.
For a while, I had forgotten my pal and I had only been focused on having fun and traveling around the country. Now, I am back where I belong, in the great state of Tennessee, armed with a law degree, ready to help those in need. It is my pleasure to announce that I am now in private practice and ready to serve all the criminal defense and divorce and injury needs of my friends and my fellow Tennesseans.
